Improving organic rankings for targeted keywords is the goal of every SEO and most inbound marketing strategies, but the number of variables included in the process of actually measuring the success of these campaigns makes the entire issue somewhat confusing for the clients, in turn, making life much more difficult for digital agencies providing these services.
- Which region are you interested in – do you want to know how you rank in Australia, or are you more concerned about the performance of your keywords in UK?
- Do you want to see how you perform in desktop or mobile searches?
- Which tool do you use to check the rankings? How often do they update their data, and where do they source their information from
- Do you also want to see how those keywords are doing when it comes to paid search?
Even once you manage to find a way to narrow this down as much as you can, there’s the issue of personalization. In other words, regardless of what a particular tool claims to be the number 1 ranked page for a certain term, that’s only a “theoretical” first place. If you took two actual users making the same query, let’s say from the same city, using the same search engine, at the same point in time, and took a look at the SERPs that each of them received for that query, you’d notice significant differences.
So, how do you account for these inconsistencies and minimize their impact? By getting as comprehensive and diverse set of data from as many sources as you possibly can. If this is your first contact with our KPI tracking and automated reporting utility, Reportz, this might sound like a lot of work to you. If, however, you’ve already seen our utility in action, you know that you only need to invest a bit of time in setting everything up, and that we will take care of the rest of the work.
Here’s what that looks like with our latest data integration, keyword organic or paid position tracking tool, SE Ranking. But first, a bit about this utility.
SE Ranking – Site, Competitors and Keyword Performance Info
SE Ranking is a versatile, cloud based utility offering a wealth of information and all the flexibility you need to monitor performance of your (or your competitor’s) website in organic search.
SE Ranking allows you to:
- Group keywords and observe their performance over any period you choose
- Compare how a particular keyword is ranking on different search engines and in different countries
- Identify and track competitors
- Run a site audit and get actionable suggestions
- Get a complete list of the backlinks to your site and analyze their anchors
This combination of features has made SE Ranking a keyword tracker of choice for many digital marketers, which is why we felt it made perfect sense to make the data it provides available to Reportz users.
SE Ranking Data Available in Reportz
Naturally, the limitations of the API connection didn’t allow us to transfer all of the features of SE Ranking to our platform, but we made sure that you’ll have access to the most essential ones. Just like with the other integrations you can find in Reportz, the way this one works is not set in stone, and we can tweak it to some extent based on your suggestions and demands.
In order to connect your SE Ranking account to our reporting tool, you’ll need to go to the Sources page in Reportz app, and add your SE Ranking token, which you can only find if you have an Enterprise account with them. The next time you create or edit a dashboard, you’ll have the option of adding widgets with data from this source.
You’ll be asked to choose which site you want to observe, and which widget do you want to add (at the moment, you can only select “custom”).
In the next text box, you can select one of the competitors you are tracking, if you want to see their data in the widget, or leave the field empty if you want the data for your site instead. Regardless of what you decide, your next step is to choose which search engine and country you want to focus on. Just like with competitors, Reportz will only be able to show those you’ve already associated with the site you’re observing directly in SE Ranking.
The fact that you can track a site’s performance across a wide variety of search engines, while also being able to specify the country and differentiate between mobile and desktop rankings is an amazingly convenient feature of SE Ranking, but this kind of precision can be even more valuable in Reportz. Other integrated rank tracking tools may not offer the same maneuverability, preventing you from creating the exact widget you need.
The surgical precision this affords helps you not only compensate for the lack of flexibility of other tools, but also makes it possible to easily compare data provided by different sources as you can always adjust the SE Ranking widget to show data in the format that other utilities are limited to. Since keywords and ranking data can vary quite a bit depending on where it’s coming from, having this kind of a bird’s eye view can be immensely useful.
When it comes to the actual data you can show, you can currently view the following set of metrics – position, price, paid position and map position, but you’ll get current values if you chose to show them for particular keywords, and average values for the entire set of observed keywords, if you chose month or day as the primary dimension.
Reportz – The Great Uniter
Since we have just recently added the SE Ranking integration, we intend to keep adding new ways to show data from this source in Reportz. However, we hope that we have illustrated how even this starter set of options can be used to:
- complement data from other similar integrated tools like Rank Ranger or Serpstat
- compare your and your competitor’s rankings in any period, location or search engine you choose
- observe the changes in the average keyword price or paid position
- of course, automate reporting on these metrics, instead of just using them to formulate new or modify your current strategy
If you want to see just how easy it is to create dashboards of this kind, save them as templates to use with other clients, and spare yourself a lot of grief, you can sign up for a 15 day free trial of Reportz, and if you like what you see, get your first dashboard for the inarguably reasonable price of $7.
